A sponsored ministry of the Sisters of Divine Providence, Room at the Inn depends heavily on our network of more than 60 partner congregations as well as other volunteers. Our 3,000+ volunteers help meet our clients' physical and emotional needs.
Room at the Inn operates with a unique model that engages the community in helping the homeless. We are more than an agency that helps the homeless; we are a catalyst that empowers the community to help their neighbors.
This community involvement has two important benefits:
1. It shows our homeless clients that the community cares for them.
2. It “puts a face on homelessness” to the community, demonstrating that
the homeless are real people, good people who are in an unfortunate situation.
Volunteer opportunities exist at both our day site and our night sites. At the shelter in Bridgeton, volunteers are needed to assist with:
Office and data entry work
Fundraising tasks
Transportation of clients to classes, interviews and other appointments
Childcare while parent(s) participate in on-site classes or leave for appointments
Recreational and educational activities (for the children)
At the night sites, volunteers assist with:
Driving clients from shelter to night site and back the following morning
Cooking dinner and breakfast for clients
Providing hospitality and fellowship
Serving as nighttime hosts
Room at the Inn occasionally needs help with special fundraising events.
