Who
We Are
Alpha
School is a private, Catholic, coeducational school located on the
40-acre campus of the Sisters of Divine Providence. Since 1926,
Alpha School has educated children to be independent thinkers, imaginative
problem solvers, and caring, compassionate individuals.
Challenge...Encourage...
Educate
Voted
one of the 25 most innovative Catholic schools in the country, Alpha
School provides outstanding instruction in fundamental skills, while
encouraging original thinking, intellectual curiosity, moral growth,
and creative self-expression.
The experienced faculty is comprised of individuals with a variety
of skills and interests, bringing diversity to their teaching styles.
Advanced teaching methods and materials enhance proven educational
techniques. With a student teacher ratio of 15:1, there is ample
opportunity for individual attention and practical classroom experience.
Faith-Filled
Education
Teaching and sharing the Catholic faith is an important
part of Alpha's mission. The school fosters an environment in which
faith and Christian values become a living and active part of each
school day. Founded by the Sister of Divine Providence,
Alpha School and the Sisters share a special relationship. Sisters
are on the faculty, and students plan and participate in weekly
liturgies in the Sisters' Providence Heights Chapel. Students are
encouraged to incorporate acts of charity and social justice into
their school and family life.
Academics...Fine Arts...Activities
Alpha students are presented with a challenging academic
curriculum and outstanding programs in language arts, science, reading,
mathematics, computer skills, and Spanish. In addition, opportunities
abound for enrichment with extracurricular activities such as Chess
Club, forensics, soccer, basketball, swimming, band, and Student
Council.
An
excellent fine arts program affords students the opportunity to
master theory and then to apply their knowledge in creative expression.
The music program is one of instruction and performance. Students
may participate in the school band.
Students excel in their academic studies, and in their extracurricular
and community involvement. Alpha students are consistently represented
among the winners of such competitions as Pennsylvania Junior Academy
of Science Fair, the English Festival, the WQED Musical Kid of the
Month, and the Scholastic Art Exhibit.
Unique
Affiliation: Alpha School and La Roche College
An
affiliation with La
Roche College, also founded by the Sisters of
Divine Providence, affords Alpha School numerous opportunities for
curriculum enrichment. In collaboration with La Roche, students
can participate in the Challenge Program, which offers accelerated
programming to qualified students. Merging the Classics, a music
program that combines both classical and jazz music instruction,
is also available. In addition, La Roche sponsors an annual art
exhibit for Alpha students as well as other shared opportunities.
Accredited by State of Pennsylvania, Middle States Association of
Colleges and Schools, National Catholic Educational Association.
