About Us Membership Associates Companions in Mission

Office of Development

The community of the Sisters of Divine Providence was founded in 1851 to "meet the needs of the times." The needs of our times are certainly different from those of the mid-19th century; they are different now than they were just ten years ago. Our ministries are always evolving to meet the current needs of the people and times. But our mission remains the same: we are committed to making God's Providence more visible in our world. We do this every day through our lives and our ministries, sharing God's love with others.

The community is committed to working with those who are economically poor and has made a corporate commitment to promote a consistent ethic of life. Our backing of our sponsored ministries is comprehensive, providing space, operating funds, staff and volunteers. We can't do it on our own, however, and we're blessed to be part of a concerned community reaching out together to assist those in need.

You can help make God's Providence more visible in our world by supporting the Sisters of Divine Providence:

Members of the Divine Providence community work in our sponsored ministries and in social justice advocacy through their individual ministries in parishes, hospitals, schools and elsewhere. Our members reveal God's Providence through direct service to the poor, health care, pastoral care, education and other callings. In addition, although many sisters 70 and older are redefining retirement by continuing to minister to others, many other sisters whose care must be provided serve God through prayer ministry.
